This essay attempts to show that the ancient rhetorical theory has explanatory capabilities to understand and learn to write modern texts and to analyze them in order to understand their communication skills, as in the scientific article, one of the most prestigious forms on scientific communication. It starts with the notion of discourse in the field of scientific communication and then address the rhetorical dimension of the paper.Este ensayo intenta demostrar que la antigua teoría retórica posee capacidades explicativas para comprender y aprender a escribir textos modernos, así como para analizar éstos con objeto de entender sus capacidades comunicativas, como ocurre en el artículo científico, una de las modalidades más prestigiadas en materia de comunicación científica. Se parte de la noción de discurso en el ámbito de la comunicación científica para luego abordar la dimensión retórica del artículo científico.
