dc.descriptionEl artículo trata de mostrar la función latente que podrían haber tenido los paratextos que anteceden las piezas de oratoria sagrada impresas, a saber, la de un conjunto de “reglas del arte” alrededor de las cuales los predicadores contribuyeron a la formación de una incipiente República de las Letras moderna. Esta conclusión se apoya en un sintético recorrido de los cambios que la propia predicación presentó a lo largo del siglo XVII ante las presiones de la sociedad de corte y la emergente cultura del impreso. Se enfoca el análisis en la prédica de la Nueva España, aunque se trata ésta como parte del mundo hispánico y católico en general, y del papel de los jesuitas en este proceso.es-ES
dc.descriptionThe article attempts to show the underlying function that the paratexts preceding the printed pieces of sacred oratory might have had, in other words, a set of “rules of art” around which preachers contributed to the formation of an incipient modern Republic of Letters. This conclusion is based on a brief summary of the changes experienced by preaching in the 17th century in response to pressure from court society and the emerging culture of the printed word. It focuses on an analysis of preaching in New Spain, even though the latter is treated as part of the Hispanic and Catholic world in general and of the Jesuits' role in this process.en-US
