A SEMI-AUTOMATED INSTRUMENT FOR MEASURING HEAT TRANSFER PARAMETERS AROUND A HORIZONTAL CYLINDER IS PRESENTED. THE METHOD UPON WHICH THE INSTRUMENT IS BASED TAKES ADVANTAGE OF THE INTERFERENCE PHENOMENON AND A DIGITAL PC. THE INTERFEROGRAMS OBTAINED ARE DIGITALLY PRE-PROCESSED IN ORDER TO ENHANCE THE FRINGES AND CYLINDER SURFACE DEFINITIONS. AFTER APPLYING ENHANCING ALGORITHMS, A COMPUTING ALGORITHM IS APPLIED EVERY 45 DEGREES AROUND THE CYLINDER CONTOUR FOR GETTING THE LOCAL NUSSELT NUMBER AND TEMPERATURE VALUES. COMPARING WITH OTHER AUTHOR'S WORKS [17,19,21J, WE HAVE ERRORS LESS THAN 10% IN THE COMPUTATION OF BOTH THE NUSSELT NUMBER AND THE TEMPERATURE VALUES THE PRESENTED WORK IS INTENDEDTO BE THE FIRST STAGE FOR AFULL-AUTOMATED HEAT TRANSFER MEASURING INSTRUMENT.
