Resumen
The objective of this research was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic activities in vitro of crude and alkaloidal extracts of Crinum x amabile. The Crinum x amabile vegetal species was collected in Muisne canton located west of the province of Esmeraldas in Ecuador, approximately at the geographic coordinates: 0°36’09.5” N 80°01’30.1” W. Crinum x amabile crude extracts, using as extractive solvent methanol. On the other hand, the leaf and bulb alkaloid extracts of the study were obtained by liquid-liquid extraction using organic solvents. In vitro anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic activities were evaluated using the isolated neutrophil model, which is based on the reduction of a tetrazolium salt (WST-1). The antioxidant activity was developed by the DPPH free radical scavenging method. The results obtained from de antiinflammaory activity assay show that Crinum x amabile crude bulb extract at a concentration of 200 ppm possesses a market anti-inflammatory activity with a 56.35% ±0.24 of inflammatory inhibition. However, the value obtained is lower than that shown by the reference substance (acetylsalicylic acid), 70.28%±0.24 of inflammatory inhibition. The obtained results of cytotoxic activity demonstrate that the alkaloidal extract of the bulb of Crinum x amabile at a concentration of 12.5 ppm presents greater cellular viability with a 65.75%±0.31.
