Non- experimental research, of transversal desing, orientated to identify the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular risk in 70 adult patients with Mellitus II diabetes, attending to the diabetic club at the Moreno Vasquez Hospital from Gualaceo Canton, Province of Azuay. The variables investigated were; general features, Metabolic Syndrome, and Cardiovcular Risk. The data statistical processing was used JMP5.1 software. The results more relevant indicate that 78,5% corresponded to the female gender, and the male gender 21,4%, aged 85-63. Evaluating the nutritional status is found that 34,2% of the patients have Obesity I, 31% is overweight and 20% has Obesity II. 89,6% presented a very high cardiovascular risk, 51% of the patients have high blood pressure, 22% pressure – contolled, and 5,7% presents Pre- high blood pressure. The blood sugar values ranges between 315mg/dl and 72 mg/dl. C-HDL (Cholesterol High- Density Lipoprotein) 62% normal, 73% presents high triglycerides. 74,2% of the population studied has already Mellitus Diabetes plus high blood pressure, 95,7% has a slight physical activity. The prevalence of the metabolic syndrome in this study group 65,7% is defined by the ATP III (Adult Treatment Panel) criteria becoming an alarming figure. In relation to the Metabolic Syndrome and Cardiovascular Risk is found that there is a 2,8% of probability find patients with metabolic syndrome presenting a normal cardiovascular risk with regard to a probability of 5,7% of finding patients with Metabolic Syndrome presenting a high cardiovascular risk. It is recommended personalized nutritional advice and promote physical activity.
