Resumen
In the tanning laboratory of the Faculty of Livestock Sciences at the ESPOCH, three defferent tanning were evaluated tara (8%), chromium (8%), in the tanning of sheep skins for the production of leather for footwear, the number of experimental units were 24 ovine skins of adult animals distributed under a completely random desing. The results indicate that when tanning ovine skins with 8% tara, the opening of the hair follicle is allowed in order to the chemical products to enter the inside the fibril interweaving, producing the transformation of leather into premium leather, and higher price. The best tensile strength (1 700,78 N / cm), and lastometry (11,23) was achieved by tanning the skins with tara, while the best elongation (70.0%) provide chrome leathers, overcoming each of them with the quality requirements established in each of the technical standards. The sensory rating of fullness ( 4, 75 points), softness ( 4,88 points), achieves a qualification of excellent when using the tanning tara (T1), presenting the leather with a incomparable beauty. The economic evaluation determines the highest gain when tanning with tara since the cost benefit relation was 1,25, it means a profit margin of 25% which is very encouraging especially since they can be considered ecological leathers that will not produce rejection as chrome-tanned leather does.
