Resumen
An evaluation of bristles in fleece of Lama glama in ten female older than a year and never sheared before from Etén community in Chimborazo Province was done. Right fleeces of each animal were gathered and were separated by body zones (BZ): neck, back, legs, arms and belly. Weight of fleece was determined from each BZ without remove the bristles. Weight of impurities from four randomly fleeces was determined. After that, ten bunches were taken randomly from each BZ with the object to determine the weight of thin and thick fiber and to count the number of bristles per gram. An repeated measures ANOVA by BZ and multifactorial ANOVA by BZ and fiber type (thin and thick) were carried out, corrected measures by model effect were calculated, and comparisons were established using the Tukey test. The back zone showed the highest weight (375.60 gr.) and the lowest number of bristles per gram (404,57 gr). Neck was the BZ with the highest number of bristles per gram (502,16 gr). The five BZ presented higher weight in percentages of thin than thick fiber, after remove the bristles. The leg was the BZ that had the highest weight in percentage of thick fibers (37,87 %), in spite of the fact that presented medium values in the number of bristles per gram. Fleeces without remove the bristles presented a mean of weight of impurities of 7,50 gr.
