Resumen
This research was carried out in the leather tannery lab of Livestock Science Faculty of ESPOCH, in order to determine the effect of formaldehyde (4, 5, 6 %) plus 4 % of aluminum sulfate to produce gamulán leather. It was tested to tan 24 sheepskin, the test consisted of 3 treatments and 8 repetitions modeled with DCA simple, which revealed that the treatment with a 6 % of formaldehyde is the best since it gave the best results in regarding elongation percentage equal to 58,13 % and the resistance to the tension equal to (1431,83 N/cm2); the natural consistency equal to (4,88 points); and the smoothness equal to (4,75% points); and touch equal to (4,63 points); therefore the target product kept visual beauty, a pleasant smoothness, falling, and texture. The gamulán leather from sheepskin is very difficult to be produced since the wool hairy bulb damage must be prevented in order to the wool were not easily detached at the very moment of prepare and make the final product. The economic assessment were carried out in regarding cost-benefit which determined that the treatment with a 6% of formaldehyde gives a 30% of profitability which represents a rate of return of 1,30 and which widely overcomes the profitability from other activities since the capital return faster and the margin of error is smaller than the other similar activities since the capital return is faster an margin of error is smaller than the other activities. Therefore is advisable to use the 6% formaldehyde to make the best sheepskin leather not only for the physical resistance but also for the sensorial quality features which is essential for the products made of gamulán leather were resistant and the well as wool natural beauty were well conserved
