Resumen
This research was focused on the design of a Personal Learning Environment (PLE) for
knowledge construction in the subject of Computers in the Fray Vicente Solano High School,
in Cuenca city. The target population was divided into two groups (experimental and control)
giving a total of 114 students. The phases of the research process were: web resources
definition for PLE, design, implementation and testing to determine whether the designed
methodology allows building knowledge efficiently in the mentioned subject. The
applications or App web which form the PLE were exclusively from internet, chosen
through surveys and documentary research about topics related to: connectivism, social
networks, web 2.0, and connected knowledge.
At the end of the second five-month term; group A reached a final score of 7,54; group B
7,02. Despite being a new learning approach with paradigms which are different from the
traditional. The experimental group had a higher arithmetic average. The difference between
the groups was 0.52 points, but 39 students in group A versus 31 in group B passed without
the help of a supplementary exam, which means 14% more than the other group.
After studies and data analysis processes, the PLE, in this educational institution influences
favorably not only in the subject, but also in the lifestyle and general learning processes.
Consequently, it is recommended to use the PLE in students from all levels students and
professionals in education because the new education world and interconnected knowledge
is a fact which is slowly consuming every person who use it.
