Resumen
At Animal Science Faculty skin tanning laboratory from ESPOCH, the use of 3
unhairing bath recirculation levels was evaluated in order to use them in salty
sheep soaking process (25%, 50%, and 75% ) compared with a witness treatment
with 4 repetitions per treatment and 2 consecutive trials, with 2 experimentable
units under a bifactorial and completely randomized desing. The results show that
the sheep skin physical endurance evaluation did not register any statistical
difference, however a numerical superiority is observed in treatment reports with a
50% of unhairing bath for strain resistance (277,68 N/cm2 ) and elongation
percentage (8,68 mm); while the best lastometry was registered in leather under
T3 treatment (75%) with an average of 8,68 mm. The 50 % unhairing bath reuse
under T2, stimulated the sheep skin sensorial characteristics for softness (4.63
points); fullness ( 4.75 points) and roundness (4.88 points). The economic
valuation of sheep skin production registered the highest cost-benefit under T2
treatment with 1,4t; it means that, each dollar invested has a 47% of capital
recovery. That's why it is recommended to use the unhairing bath in a 50% in
order to eliminate impurities from both the slaughter and preservation of the skin.
