Resumen
We studied the control parameters proposed by the Ecuadorian Society of Endocrinology for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in patients of the diabetic club of the Hospital of the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS) Riobamba, province of Chimborazo, to study the health status of the participants and to improve their quality of life, The study was carried out in 170 diabetic patients of which 147 (86%) were female and 23 (14%) male, with ages between 42 and 84 years old. The patients were called in groups of 30 people in different days in the morning under fasting conditions and measurements of blood pressure, body mass index, waist hip index, glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, triglycerides. It was determined that 75% had glycosylated hemoglobin levels higher than 7%; 61% had glucose levels higher than 130 mg/dL; 82% of the patients did not maintain their weight in a healthy state; in the lipid profile determinations it was determined that the parameter most frequently not complied with was HDL cholesterol, which represented 63.5%; 42.4% of the patients had hypertension. There is an important deficit in the compliance with the control parameters carried out on patients to achieve the clinical goal proposed by the Ecuadorian Society of Endocrinology for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is recommended to continue performing permanent controls in the patients of the diabetic club of the Hospital del Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social (IESS) Riobamba in order to improve their health status and have a better control of the group.
