Resumen
The research work included the redesign of the Colta Regional Drinking Water Treatment Plant located in the parish of Sicalpa. The deductive, inductive and experimental methods through knowledge and analysis allowed us to diagnose the treatment plant and concluded that the water distributed to the users of different communities of the Colta canton presents problems because it does not comply with the INEN 1108 standards for drinking water. Physical-chemical and microbiological analyses of the water and tests using 1% aluminum polychloride dosage determined that it is necessary to implement rapid mixing, flocculation, and sedimentation stages in the current system. The plant redesign was dimensioned by means of engineering calculations determining the fast mixing channel with a mixing time equal to 0.37s, the hydraulic flocculation channel of horizontal flow is 23.2m of interior length with a permanence time of 30 minutes; the sedimenter having a retention time equal to 31.88 minutes and a fast filter to treat 345.6m3/day. With the implementation of the new system, the yield percentages obtained from the jar test are: color = 100%, turbidity = 98.5%, iron = 89.48%, and microbiological parameters = 100%. It is recommended that the GAD Municipal del Cantón Colta implement the study, constructing the mentioned stages will improve the drinking water treatment system and provide good quality water to the population of Colta.
