Resumen
To establish the level of prevalence of Equine Infectious Anemia (E.I.A) in the
province of Chimborazo 118 horses were evaluated based on their age, race, and
sex, there are thirteen town grounds, Penipe, Guano, Riobamba and Chambo.
The Results were obtained by responding to simple random sampling, were
submitted on a category based on their age, race, town and background, analyzed
using the descriptive statistics and frequency distribution. The collection of blood
samples was performed by jugular vein puncture, keeping in it refrigerated until
they are being moved to AGROCALIDAD -Tumbaco diagnosis center, to make the
Coggins Test. At the same time a survey was applied to the owners, to measure
their knowledge and the implication that the equine infectious anemia (E.I.A) has.
According to the answers, the horses have different accommodations, prevailing
paddocks and stables, fulfilling work and sports activities like polo and riding.
100% of the owners know about this disease. Of the 118 horses, 40,68% were
females and 59,32% males. Finding two male animals with prevalence of the
E.I.A, representing 1,69% of sick animals in the total, and that belong to the mix
gene cluster group, located in Guano town, Pulug and lower Cahuaji sectors. At
the end of the study a information meeting was conducted to reveal the
importance of preventing the E.I.A, in which were given brochures prepared by the
Ecuadorian Agency for Quality Assurance (AGROCALIDAD).
