Resumen
In the use of PET plastic bottles as a structural unit for light masonry in the Quero canton, province of Tunguragua. We proceeded with sampling, collection and cleaning of 3-liter bottles; the material was developed and the structural units were designed. Samples were prepared with the following volume ratios: cement 0.8, water 6, sand 1.2 and gravel 6, bottles were filled with this mixture. To evaluate the mechanical strength, structural units were prepared at the ages of 15, 20 and 28 days, the time at which they reach their maximum strength. For physical tests, the units and the control sample were prepared and moisture, porosity and unit weight were determined. In mechanical tests, promising loads of 31.07, 31.12 and 31.23 kg/m2 at 15, 20 and 28 days, respectively, were reported. It was proved that the use of plastic bottles as a structural unit for masonry is possible because it presented better physical and mechanical characteristics than normal blocks, reducing soil contamination.
