Resumen
In the Rheumatology area of the Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social IESS in the city of Riobamba, a Pharmacotherapeutic Follow-up program was implemented for patients diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, with the aim of improving their quality of life through the appropriate use of pharmacotherapy, by detecting, preventing and resolving Drug Related Problems (DRP). The study was conducted with 30 patients, including men and women aged 30 to 72 years, from November 2012 to March 2013. Using the deductive-inductive method, the study revealed that 80% of the patients presented 53 DRPs located in different categories, mainly DRP 3 with 40%, DRP 5 with 30.2% and DRP 4 with 15%, determining that the main cause is the qualitative ineffectiveness that the patient suffers due to the lack of adherence to pharmacotherapy. At the end of the treatment, 40 DRPs were resolved, thanks to the intervention carried out during 5 months of pharmacotherapeutic follow-up. It was concluded that the implementation of the SFT gave good results by improving the quality of life of the patients, which can be demonstrated by the clinical values of CRP, RF and ESR, which show notable decreases manifested in the statistical analysis performed with ANOVA and Tukey's test b, which scientifically support that in reality there was a significant difference between each month of SFT. It is important to recommend the presence within the health team of the Biochemical Pharmacist professional, who are the ones called to provide Pharmaceutical Care to the community, demonstrating their fundamental role in the prevention, detection and resolution of Drug-Related Problems.
