Resumen
The investigation of the in vitro antibacterial activity of Rosemary and Thyme extracts against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Salmonella typhimurium ATCC 14028, Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 13883, Candida albicans ATCC 10231 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. ATCC 13883, Candida albicans ATCC 10231 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. ATCC 27853 was carried out in the Phytochemistry and Microbiology laboratories of the Faculty of Sciences of the Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo. For this purpose, extracts were obtained by maceration of leaves and stems in a volumetric balloon with hexane and alcohol - water, then quality control was performed and the solvent was evaporated in a water bath. Subsequently, three different concentrations and the mixture of the soft extracts were used against the different bacteria and their antimicrobial properties were tested using the Mitscher method, which consists of determining the growth of the microorganisms in the presence of increasing concentrations of the antimicrobial, in this case the extracts, which are diluted in the culture medium. After 24 and 48 hours of incubation, it was observed that the extracts of both plants showed antibacterial activity, highlighting the mixture of hexanic extracts at concentrations of 10000 and 1000 µg / mL against Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans and Pseudomonas aeruginosa due to phenolic compounds such as thymol, carvacrol and cineol present in the essential oil, so it is recommended the use of the mixture of extracts of Rosemary and Thyme in infections caused by bacteria and fungi.
