This text presents an alternative method of imprisonment called Association of Protection and Assistance to the Convict (APAC), which for the past seven ears has successfully been implemented as a policy tool in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. The policy has established itself, becoming an NGO managed by a civil society group, a gathering of religious laypeople. Actually, there are 108 APACs, which similarly to,common prisons, manage private criminal sentence in Brazil. The APAC method relies on Catholicism as an instrument to help rehabilitate the inmate, in such a way that it acts like a penal therapy. 'Every man is bigger than his mistake' is the core in which relies the belief in the prisoner recovery. For his creators the objective of his methodology is to 'kill the criminal and save the man'. The main objective of this article is, thus, to rise and formulate the questions that until now configures the research about APAC. Before, one presents the method and then, makes a bibliographic trajectory by means of the contributions of some theoreticians whose contributions have lightening the criminological, psychotherapeutical and theological dimensions of this issue."
