© 2018 Interciencia Association. All Rights Reserved. The academic culture is the deepest level of essential beliefs that are shared by the members of a community. They operate unconsciously and defines the vision of the academic unit and its environment. Culture influences the results and it is thus expected that the different types of culture will have different impacts in the quality of university degrees. For this purpose, an exploratory study was carried out with 38 academic leaders from four universities. Results show that culture explains 65,1% of the variance in the accreditation years of the careers analyzed. The competitive culture has a particularly significant impact on the quality of university degrees.
