This case study aimed to identify the chronotype of students enrolled in the eighth and
ninth years of basic education in the Municipal School of Palmas. Therefore, we applied
the questionnaire of Horne and Östberg (1976), which provides us with the rating for
morning and afternoon following the following scores: 16 to 33 - afternoon, 34 a 44 -
moderate afternoon, 45 to 65 - indifferent ; 66 to 76 - moderate morning, 77 A. 86 -
morning. Statistical analysis of data was used Softwer for Windows 2003, for classification
as gender and class of students participating in the sample. The sample consisted of 121
adolescents with mean age of 14.15 (± 0.88) students in eighth grade classes (080) and
(081) and ninth grade classes (090) and (091) elementary school, 64 of female and 57
male. The results presented around chronotype students from the eighth and ninth years
of school, show us a change that needs to be more studies. Thus, to reflect more the
importance of knowledge of chronobiology and the "chronotype" as one criterion among
others, to be used by management to enroll students at times considered ideal, given that studies show the relationship between diurnal school performance, become of paramount importance when the recovery and improve the quality of teaching and learning programs.
