The Community Health Agent is a worker where their actions are fundamental to the Health System to work in order to strengthen the actions of the Family Health Strategy. In developing their work may confront certain frustrating situations that arouse or demotivation. The present study aimed to understand the perceptions and motivations of community health workers about their actions in the work process in the municipality of Santa Maria / RS. The study was conducted from August to November 2011. This is an exploratory and descriptive qualitative study. Participated in the study and thirty three Community Health teams of the Family Health Strategy. We used a semistructured interview and the data were subjected to thematic content analysis. The results three categories: Perspective of the work of community health workers on the staff of the Family Health Strategy and its relationship with the community, perceptions of community health workers on interdisciplinary work and the relationship with health management and Motivations and disincentives in the labor process. Thus, it was realized that the community health workers understand the importance of their work, but feel unmotivated and poorly recognized by the actions they perform. Therefore, there is a lack of support from the local administration, the other members of the healthcare team and the community itself as some factors causing these feelings.
