Resumen
The cardiac rehabilitation (CR) post myocardial revascularization (MR) shows a series of benefits, such as, in quality of life, reduction of morbidity and mortality, improvement muscle strength and functional capacity. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of a CR program (phase II) combined with the inspiratory muscle training (IMT) post MR in association between respiratory muscle strength and maximum functional capacity. This is a quasi-experimental study, with 17 patients allocated in control group (CG; n=8) doing CR and breathing exercises and treatment group (TG; n=9) doing CR associated with IMT with Threshold® IMT. The intervention was carried out for 12 weeks, with 2 weekly meetings lasting 45 to 60 minutes. The patients were evaluated before and after intervention with the following instruments: digital manometer (MDI® Model 300 Globalmed MVD®) and exercise test by a ramp protocol. The TG showed an increase after intervention of maximum expiratory pressure (MEP) (p=0,006), maximum inspiratory pressure (MIP) (p=0,001) and peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak) (p<0,001) that was associated positively with MIP (r=0,736; p=0,024) and PEM (r=0,672; p=0,047). Comparing the variation, between groups, the PEM, MIP and VO2peak the increase was significantly higher in TG (p=0,034; p=<0,001; p=0,040), respectively. It is concluded that a CR program (phase II) combined with the IMT showed an increase of respiratory muscle strength, maximum functional capacity and positive association between MIP e PEM with VO2peak in patients of GT.
