In this paper we present an analysis of the lexicon in transcripts from the oral test of the EPPLE examination, focusing on the quality of the vocabulary and levels of proficiency of candidates. Audio recordings were transcribed and the lexical items were categorized by the RANGE program, in less and more frequent words in English, and the TEPOLI oral rating scales were also used in the analysis. It is recommended that more specific descriptors for vocabulary and metalanguage in the EPPLE oral test are produced so as to orient a more valid and reliable assessment of the examinees.
