We opted for a qualitative research, the case study and the use of document analysis techniques of master plans for kindergarten institutions. The results elucidated that the concepts of kindergarten teachers about the children's families, are based on the nuclear model hindering the acceptance of new family configurations and the establishment of a relationship between these institutions and demonstrated the growing number of families whose configuration differs from nuclear.
