Resumen
Since the 80's, in the popular neighborhoods of Cartagena and Barranquilla has been developing a musical phenomenon called champeta. This type of music is descended from popular dances known in the regional tradition as verbenas, in which the central axis are great sound amplifiers denominated picós and they date approximately of the decade of 1950 of century XX. The present paper is part of the social studies of music in which the processes of creation, diffusion and distribution through which a champeta song is played in the city of Barranquilla, Caribbean of Colombia. These processes respond to a logic of alternative musical circulation framed in a context in which champeta music is marginalized and stigmatized by the coastal and national elites through various discursive, legal and media mechanisms, generating some forms of circulation Musical that border on the informal / illegal.
