Resumen
The colombian government defined the structure Bogota´s Integrated Public Transportation System will have. This system began operating on June 30th 2012. The implications of this new system affects citizens, as the 66 companies that were qualified as operators of public transportation and also drivers, among many other involved factors.
For the implementation of the IPTS, Bogotá was divided into 13 zones, which will be covered by 432 routes and only 13 companies that remain as system operators.
The IPTS has been strongly and negatively criticized by citizens, operator companies, drivers and governmental entities, due to different factors, such as road’s conditions, the scrapping process in which during the first year more than 6000 old buses must entry, the environmental requirements that non-scrapping buses must accomplish, problems with the new payment system, but specially because of the lack of information that society had and is suffering. Although the system must operate in a gradual way, is important to inform since the beginning how it would be, having into account that its involvement, would completely change the way in which Bogota’s citizens are mobilized.
