Resumen
The concept of international security has managed to expand towards the inclusion of non- traditional threats. In this context, the phenomenon of international migration begins to be part of governments’ agenda, being understood as a threat to national security. This investigation aims to examine UK’s 2007-2014 securitizing discourse on Romanian immigration in order to determine the impact that it has had on the perception of international migration as a matter of security in the EU. The understanding of UK’s immigration discourse under the securitization theory and the analysis of European public opinion show that, even if the discourse has influenced the national context, it has had a low impact on the perception of international migration as a threat for the EU.
