The interest of this case study is to analyze the participatory processes in the formulation of urban planning instruments and their effects on the management of cities, particularly in the public space. This, from a normative and historical review of the terms citizen participation and public space, as favorable scenarios for citizen input into planning decisions and how to constitute structuring elements of the city that charge of identity, symbolic dimension and appropriation citizenship of their environments. For this end, a balance of social management strategy and participatory approach by the Plan Maestro de Espacio Público 2005. In order to highlight the importance of citizen participation in management planning tools and its results in the management of public space in Bogotá.
