Resumen
BACKGROUND: Studies show the improvement of deep venous insufficiency after saphenous vein surgery, the wide gap between positive results (30-70%) makes questioning the performance of surgery for this condition. However, the improvement in quality of life in the postoperative period might be another reason for surgery in patients with mixed venous insufficiency.
METHODS: We performed a cross sectional study in patients with mixed venous insufficiency after saphenous vein surgery. In the postoperative period were carried out quality of life surveys type specific and generic performing a uni and bivariate analysis of this information was made through Stata program.
RESULTS: We obtained 60 patients, by practicing the quality of life surveys we found data statistically significant (p 0.04) in the perception of their health over the previous year and scales of the surveys on general states of health and physical function and vitality. It was also found improvement in skin condition and showed no complications such as pulmonary embolism or deep vein thrombosis
CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study demonstrate that most patients after saphenous vein surgery have a good perception of quality of life in health, reflected in high scores on most scales of the SF-36, and low scores on the specific questionnaire venous insufficiency. The improvement in the skin of most patients in the postoperative period and the minimal presence of complications such as pulmonary embolism or DVT makes the removal of incompetent saphenous trunks in these patients can be established as a surgical indication
