Abstract
To improve the understanding of the processes
of technology transfer between university-business
and communities, is one of the concerns of the
university academy of any nation, for its selfevaluation,
appointed to redirect their impacts,
being the bibliometric analysis (Scientometrics) one
of the assessment tools. The aim of this study was
to perform a bibliometric analysis of the scientific
literature published in the Journal of the Faculty
of Veterinary Science of the Central University of
Venezuela (UCV- FCV) during the period 2002-
2011. Research published in each journal during
that time was considered, applying the consumer
bibliometric indicators (density, half-life, Price
index, isolation index, document typology, and
language capacity). The review articles, letters to
the editor, reflections, editorials, and informative
notes, were not included in the scientific study.
A total of 2651 bibliographic references in 106
scientific articles were evaluated. The results of
the investigation showed a density close to 25
references/article, with an average half-life of
10 years. The Price index exceeded 24% and the isolation index was approximately 16%. More
than 66% of the documents listed as bibliographic
references were scientific journals written in English.
It is recommended that the age of the consulted
literature be revised, due to the high risk of using
outdated or superseded information.
