Resumen
The redesign of the drinking water treatment plant in the San Miguel canton of the Bolivar Province, with the application of new structures in the treatment system to improve the supply of the liquid distributed to the population. Water sampling was carried out constantly during 4 weeks, in each process of the current treatment plant, with the purpose of performing physical-chemical and microbiological analyses to verify the current state of the plant where it was identified that the water presented problems of turbidity and iron values that were outside the permissible limit of the INEN 1108 Standard. The results obtained at the end of this research, which was carried out in the laboratory of the treatment plant, allowed establishing that the redesign will have a treatment flow of 0.08786 m3/s, a projection of 15 years of operation, requires an aeration system with 6 towers and 5 trays in each tower, a Parshall flow meter with a width of the throat W = 0.46m, height of the crest above the throat Ha= 0, 2m, height of water above the throat Hb = 0.14m, a flocculation system using a fast mixing channel with a mixing time of 2.42s and a vertical flow flocculator 6m long and 2m deep, a vertical flow settler with Sedimentation Velocity Vs=0.23cm/s with a length of 6m and a height of 2m, sand and gravel filters with a filtration area of 12.55m2 . The construction of the proposed new structures is recommended in order to provide the population with water that complies with the INEN 1108 Standard on Drinking Water Requirements and meets the values for turbidity, color and iron established in the NTE INEN Standard.
