A parametric, information-theory model for predictions in time series
(Elsevier Science, 2014-03)
In this work, a method based on information theory is developed to make predictions from a sample of nonlinear time series data. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
Elements of Peirce's semiotic theory of perception for the development of information retrieval interfaces
(Univ Zaragoza, 2017-07-01)
This article explores the basic concepts of perception in Charles Sanders Peirce relating them to perceptual processes that affect the design of digital interfaces in the field of information retrieval. For this, it was ...
Shared information in stationary states at criticality
(IOP PUBLISHING LTD, 2010)
We consider bipartitions of one-dimensional extended systems whose probability distribution functions describe stationary states of stochastic models. We define estimators of the information shared between the two subsystems. ...
Information users as the goal of university libraries: an analysis based on Adorno and Horkheimer's Critical Theory
(Univ Federal Rio Grande Sul, Fac Biblioteconomia & Comunicacao, 2021-07-01)
This paper aims to investigate whether the emancipatory reason in the Frankfurt School's critical theory is aligned with the expectations of the users of information services and resources in universities of the Southeast ...
Time series characterization via horizontal visibility graph and Information Theory
(Elsevier Science, 2016-12)
Complex networks theory have gained wider applicability since methods for transformation of time series to networks were proposed and successfully tested. In the last few years, horizontal visibility graph has become a ...
Information theory perspective on network robustness
(Elsevier Science, 2016-01)
A crucial challenge in network theory is the study of the robustness of a network when facing a sequence of failures. In this work, we propose a dynamical definition of network robustness based on Information Theory, that ...
The management of information under the optics of complex thought: a reflection
(Univ Brasilia, Dept Ciencia Informacao, 2020-01-01)
The contemporary society immersed in a significant amount of information must integrate the most varied organizational and informational contexts in order to generate knowledge with inter, multi, multi and transdisciplinary ...
Translation and/or representation

A discussion on the origin of quantum probabilities
(Elsevier, 2013-11)
We study the origin of quantum probabilities as arising from non-Boolean propositional-operational structures. We apply the method developed by Cox to non distributive lattices and develop an alternative formulation of ...
Classification and Verification of Handwritten Signatures with Time Causal Information Theory Quantifiers
(Public Library of Science, 2016-12)
We present a new approach for handwritten signature classification and verification based on descriptors stemming from time causal information theory. The proposal uses the Shannon entropy, the statistical complexity, and ...
